How much does it cost to use Express Logistics' services?
There are no upfront or monthly fees to use Express Logistics. Express Logistics negotiates deep discounted pricing on a volume basis and passes through most of the discount to the customer.
How can Express Logistics beat our current discounts?
Discount is only part of the reason as to why customers save money shipping though Express Logistics. Express Logistics is able to negotiate substantially deep discounts with partner carriers by leveraging volume generated by all of Express Logistics' customers. Carriers also have the capability to price specific lanes more competitively in Pro Ship if they have a negative imbalance of freight in their system.
Even a larger contributing factor, as to why companies are able to save money, is the result of carrier optimization utilizing Pro Ship. In other words, Pro Ship allows users to identify and use the right type of carrier for the right type of move. Often, when we analyze freight invoices from a prospective client, we see several shipments where the wrong type of carrier was used. For example, if a long haul carrier is selected when the shipment could have gone with a mid-size or regional carrier, chances are the company is going to pay a lot more for the shipment than what they could have by using a smaller carrier. By having relationships with over 25 regional and national carriers, Pro Ship allows businesses to pick the right type of carrier for each move within seconds!
Are the quotes guaranteed using Pro Ship?
As long as your information is entered correctly (weight, class, additional services, etc.), and you ship the same day, your freight quote is guaranteed. The current fuel surcharge is included in the price that is displayed in Pro Ship.
Is an LTL carrier's transit time guaranteed?
LTL standard transit times that are published are dependable, but not guaranteed. Carriers typically charge anywhere from $25.00 per shipment to 25% of the freight charge to guarantee the transit time. You can call Express Logistics' freight desk if you need a guaranteed quote from a specific carrier.
Will my shipment be insured using Express Logistics?
Yes. It is important to note, that carrier's liability coverage varies on a per shipment basis due to class and weight of freight. If you have questions about insurance coverage for a particular shipment, please call Express Logistics to verify the amount of applicable coverage.
If Express Logistics routes my inbound or drop shipment, how is the carrier selected?
When a vendor for one of our customers calls in for routing instructions, the standard methodology that Express Logistics uses, is to pick the low cost carrier showing in Pro Ship for the move. With that being said, many of our customers have different business rules established for our freight desk to follow when receiving routing calls. Rules can be based upon transit times, insurance, pick- up times, etc.
Do I need to schedule my own pick-up?
Yes. Even though a few carriers accept electronic tendering, not all do. Additionally, we believe there are too many variables that can't be managed properly that will lead to unexpected missed pick-ups. Express Logistics' BOL supplies the carrier's terminal information so you can easily schedule your pick-up.
Are we required to use Express Logistics' BOL?
In order to ensure that you receive Express Logistics' rates that are displayed in Pro Ship, you must use Express Logistics' BOL. From time to time, it is necessary for a customer to use their own BOL for internal protocol purposes. If you elect not to use our BOL, you must specify on the BOL to bill Third Party to our billing company and reference the Express Logistics' BOL#. By doing so, it will ensure proper billing and auditing.
Is class important and what do I do If I don't know my class on a shipment?
Class is one of the important variables in determining the cost of your shipment. The higher the class, the more the shipment costs. Class is determined by a few factors including, but not limited to: density, product value, and difficulty of transporting. You can call Express Logistics to get the correct classification for your shipment.
Is an NMFC number required on each shipment?
It is not required, but it is important to insure that you receive the proper rates reflected in Pro Ship. The NMFC number is a numeric indicator that specifically identifies each type of product that can be shipped with an LTL common carrier. The NMFC number dictates the class that will be used on the BOL. If the class or NMFC number is incorrect on the BOL, the carrier can charge you for inspection fees to re-class the freight.
Will I receive the same level of service from Express Logistics' carriers as I currently receive?
Express Logistics only partners with the leading service providers in the industry. The carriers must maintain excellent on-time delivery ratios, low claim ratios, and overall good customer support in order to compete for business in Pro Ship.
How do I process a claim if damage occurs?
If a claim occurs, you can file the claim with Express Logistics or with the carrier directly. If you elect to have us manage the claim process, you can either call Express Logistics' freight desk to start the claim process, or you can submit an online form.
